Apple may be getting closer to launching its long-rumored AirPods with built-in cameras. The latest iOS 27 beta 2 contains references to a new Apple device with the codename B790, giving the strongest hint yet that the company is actively developing this product.

Developer Sam Henri Gold discovered the hidden reference in iOS 27 beta 2 and shared the finding on X (formerly Twitter). The software includes a system prompt mentioning B790, which appears to describe a device that uses two cameras positioned on either side of the user’s head. This strongly suggests that the codename belongs to the rumored AirPods with cameras.

The new AirPods are expected to support Visual Intelligence, allowing users to understand and interact with their surroundings more easily. Instead of taking out an iPhone, users could simply wear the AirPods and ask Siri questions about nearby objects, places, or text. This would make everyday interactions faster and more convenient.

Initially, Gold believed the codename might refer to Apple’s future AI-powered smart glasses. However, after reviewing the details, it now appears far more likely that B790 is connected to the camera-equipped AirPods. One interesting detail is that previous reports from Bloomberg mentioned the project under the codename B798, while the latest beta software uses B790. The difference could simply reflect different development stages or internal versions of the product.

Apple was originally expected to introduce the camera-equipped AirPods this year. However, reports suggest the launch was delayed because of software-related challenges. The company is now expected to unveil the new AirPods next fall, potentially alongside the 20th anniversary iPhone.

If the rumors prove accurate, these AirPods could become one of Apple’s most advanced wearable devices. By combining cameras, Siri, and Visual Intelligence, they may offer a hands-free way to explore and understand the world without relying on an iPhone.
