Samsung has unveiled three new foldable smartphones, expanding the product category it has led for several years ahead of Apple’s expected foldable iPhone launch later this year. The new lineup includes the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8, with each model designed for different types of users. Samsung aims to strengthen its position in the premium foldable smartphone market by combining upgraded hardware, larger displays, and advanced AI features.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra feature a book-style folding design, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 uses a compact clamshell form factor. The Fold 8 starts at $1,899, the Fold 8 Ultra costs $2,099, and the Flip 8 is priced at $1,199. Samsung says the price increases are partly due to the addition of more advanced AI technologies and premium hardware.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display, making it more suitable for watching videos, browsing social media, and gaming. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra offers a larger 6.5-inch cover screen and an 8-inch main display, providing more space for productivity tasks such as editing documents, creating presentations, and multitasking across multiple apps.

Camera capabilities also differ between the two foldable models. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra includes a premium triple-camera system with wide, telephoto, and ultra-wide lenses, while the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 features wide and ultra-wide cameras. Both smartphones are powered by Qualcomm processors and include Samsung Galaxy AI alongside Google’s Gemini AI for enhanced productivity and intelligent features.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 offers a 4.1-inch cover display for quick access to notifications, apps, and widgets, along with a larger 6.9-inch internal display. Its compact folding design makes it easier to carry in a pocket or bag while still delivering a full-sized smartphone experience when opened.

Samsung remains the world’s leading foldable smartphone brand, capturing approximately 40% of the global foldable market in 2025, according to Counterpoint Research. Huawei follows with about 30% market share. However, competition is expected to increase as Apple prepares to introduce its first foldable iPhone later this year. Industry reports suggest Apple’s device could cost more than $2,000, directly competing with Samsung’s premium foldable models. Analysts also expect Apple’s entry into the segment to reshape the market by attracting a significant share of foldable smartphone buyers.
